International Open Access Week

Open access (OA) is the free, online availability of research and scholarly outputs, including peer-reviewed articles, primarily in reference to publications without expectation of payment. With the new Tri-Agencies (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) policy to make agency-funded research publicly accessible within 12 months of publication, open access publishing plays an important role in a post-secondary context.

International Open Access Week runs from October 23 through 29, 2017 and “is an opportunity for the academic and research community to continue to learn about the potential benefits of Open Access, to share what they’ve learned with colleagues, and to help inspire wider participation in helping to make Open Access a new norm in scholarship and research.” (Open Access Week, 2017).

For more information on open access publishing, please visit the University of Manitoba Libraries website or contact your liaison librarian.
